Pet Food Premixes

Vitamin-mineral premixes, matched to species, life stage and process.

Custom vitamin and mineral premixes for complete and complementary dog and cat foods — designed by Guires PNL nutritionists to the FEDIAF Nutritional Guidelines and AAFCO Nutrient Profiles, with the documentation regulators and buyers ask for.

Guires Pet Nutrition Lab

Pet Food Premixes from Guires PNL

A complete pet food stands or falls on its micronutrients. Vitamins and trace minerals are added in tiny amounts, yet a small error can leave a food deficient or push it past a safe maximum, and processing destroys part of some vitamins before the food reaches the bowl.

Guires PNL designs vitamin-mineral premixes for each species, life stage, breed size and process, with overages calculated for the process and every level checked against the FEDIAF Nutritional Guidelines and AAFCO Nutrient Profiles. Each premix comes with the nutrient-profile documentation needed for submissions in the EU, US, Australia and Asian markets.

Premix Range

Six premix families, one standard of compliance.

Each family is a starting point. We adjust levels and mineral forms to your base recipe, format and target market.

Adult maintenance · dogs

Adult Dog Premix

A vitamin-mineral premix for complete and complementary adult dog foods, formulated to the FEDIAF guidelines and the AAFCO adult maintenance profile. It works across extruded kibble, wet and canned, semi-moist, and raw or freeze-dried formats.

Key nutrients
  • Vitamins A, D3, E and K
  • B-complex vitamins
  • Zinc, copper, manganese, selenium
  • Iodine and iron
Adult maintenance · cats

Adult Cat Premix

Built around the nutrients cats cannot make for themselves: taurine, which cats synthesise in amounts too small to meet their needs; preformed vitamin A, because cats cannot convert beta-carotene; and arachidonic acid, which cats cannot make in adequate amounts from linoleic acid. Suited to high-meat wet and dry cat foods.

Key nutrients
  • Taurine (essential for cats)
  • Preformed vitamin A (retinol)
  • Arachidonic acid source
  • Vitamins D3, E and B-complex
  • Zinc, copper, iodine, selenium
Growth · puppies and kittens

Puppy & Kitten Premix

For complete growth foods for puppies and kittens. Calcium level and the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio are controlled to support healthy skeletal development, following the FEDIAF and AAFCO growth profiles — large-breed puppies in particular are sensitive to excess calcium 5.

Key nutrients
  • Vitamins A, D3 and E
  • Calcium, phosphorus, magnesium
  • Zinc, copper, iodine
  • Compatible with added DHA
Mature and senior · dogs and cats

Senior Pet Premix

For foods for mature and senior dogs and cats. Phosphorus is kept moderate, and antioxidant vitamins are set higher to support healthy ageing — within the nutrient profile for adult maintenance.

Key nutrients
  • Vitamins E and C
  • Moderate phosphorus
  • Vitamin D3 and B-complex
  • Compatible with glucosamine
Custom · small to giant breeds

Breed-Size Premixes

Custom mineral ratios for breed size. Large and giant breeds need controlled calcium and calcium-to-phosphorus ratios during growth; small and toy breeds need more energy per kilogram of body weight and benefit from more concentrated micronutrients.

Key nutrients
  • Calcium-controlled for large breeds
  • Concentrated for small breeds
  • Joint-support minerals
  • Custom mineral ratios
Functional foods and treats

Functional Pet Food Premix

For functional foods and treats aimed at joints, skin and coat, oral care and digestion — designed to sit alongside functional actives in the same recipe without loss of stability.

Key nutrients
  • Joints (glucosamine-compatible)
  • Skin & coat (biotin, zinc; omega-compatible)
  • Oral care
  • Probiotic-compatible
Technical

Premium brands need more than completeness.

They also need transparent ingredients, nutrients that survive processing, flexibility across formats, and export documents that satisfy the most regulated markets.

01

Taurine for every cat formula

Cats cannot make enough taurine from methionine and cysteine, and a deficiency causes dilated cardiomyopathy and retinal degeneration 3. Every cat premix carries taurine at FEDIAF-compliant levels, verified batch by batch.

02

Designed for the process

Each premix is designed for the process it will go through — extrusion, retort sterilisation, freeze-drying or cold pressing — with vitamin overages calculated for each, because heat, moisture, pressure and shear destroy some vitamins 4.

03

FEDIAF and AAFCO documentation

A full nutrient-profile report against FEDIAF 1 and AAFCO 2, with the reasoning behind each mineral form and its bioavailability, ready for regulatory submissions. FEDIAF and AAFCO publish standards; they do not certify products.

04

Works with functional actives

Compatibility with glucosamine, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics and botanical extracts is confirmed by stability testing of the combined formula, not assumed.

05

Heavy-metal control

Limits for undesirable substances — such as cadmium in fish-based diets and arsenic in seafood ingredients — are managed through ingredient selection and verified by NABL-accredited laboratories against limits such as those in Directive 2002/32/EC 7.

06

Export documentation

Documentation prepared for the EU (Regulation (EC) No 767/2009 6), the US (AAFCO and FDA), Australia (AS 5812 8), Japan (Pet Food Safety Act 9), India (IS 11968:2019 10) and ASEAN markets.

Compliance

Compliant with FEDIAF and AAFCO — verified, documented, ready to submit.

Every Guires PNL product is formulated to comply with the FEDIAF Nutritional Guidelines and the AAFCO Dog and Cat Food Nutrient Profiles. Neither body issues certificates to manufacturers, so compliance is verified independently against their published standards — and every product comes with a complete documentation package for regulatory submissions in the EU, US, Australia and Asian markets.

FAQs

Premix questions.

Do FEDIAF or AAFCO certify your premixes?

No. FEDIAF and AAFCO publish nutritional guidelines and nutrient profiles; neither certifies products or manufacturers. Guires PNL verifies compliance independently against their published standards and gives you the documentation that shows it.

Can you design a premix for my own recipe?

Yes. We start from the nutrient analysis of your base recipe, so the finished food — not just the premix — meets the target profile for the species, life stage and market.

How do you allow for vitamin losses in processing?

Overages are calculated for your process (extrusion, retort, freeze-drying or cold pressing) and confirmed by analysis of the finished product and through shelf life.

Where are the premixes made?

At GMP-certified partner manufacturing facilities, with full batch traceability and documented quality management. Heavy metals are verified by NABL-accredited laboratories.

Who is responsible for compliance of the finished food?

We provide the formulation, verification and documentation. Final responsibility for product compliance rests with the brand owner placing the product on the market.
