Functional Benefit

Digestive Health — built on evidence.

Firm stools, comfortable digestion and a balanced gut microbiome — built on fibres and highly digestible proteins, with biotics used where the evidence supports them.

What We Work On

Where we focus in digestive health.

01

Stool quality

Recipes and fibre blends that improve faecal consistency, measured on a published scoring scale.

02

Digestibility

Protein and fat sources chosen and processed for high apparent digestibility.

03

Gut microbiome

Fermentable fibres and prebiotics that shift fermentation toward beneficial metabolites.

04

Sensitive stomachs

Limited-ingredient and hydrolysed-protein options for dogs and cats that react to common proteins.

Latest Research

What the evidence shows.

Peer-reviewed studies in dogs and cats — including where evidence is limited — and how each one shapes our formulation.

Fibre-enriched food improved chronic diarrhoea

In 31 dogs with chronic large-bowel diarrhoea, stool scores rose from 2.6 to 3.8 within one day on a fibre-enriched food; 68% had complete resolution by day 56.
What we do

We build fibre blends to target stool quality and measure it on a published scale.

Fibre shifts fermentation

The same trial found the food moved gut metabolism from protein to carbohydrate fermentation and raised beneficial postbiotic metabolites.
What we do

Microbiome and metabolite endpoints can be added to digestive studies.

Probiotic evidence is limited

A systematic review of 17 dog studies found only a very limited effect of probiotics in acute gut disease and no added benefit over diet in chronic disease.
What we do

We don’t rely on a probiotic alone for a digestive claim — the whole recipe does the work.

FEDIAFAAFCO

Every Guires PNL product is formulated to comply with the FEDIAF Nutritional Guidelines and the AAFCO Dog and Cat Food Nutrient Profiles.
